Edward J. Theroux Life Member Merrimack Post Memorial Mass July 14

Could you please put the information below out to the members of the VFW and LAVFW as I know some people from around the area had expressed an interest in attending the memorial  services in NH for my husband’s father, Edward J. Theroux.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Merrimack, NH on July 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. for Ed, who was a life member of Merrimack VFW #8641.    There will be a VFW ritual service and a brunch reception to follow at the Merrimack VFW Post 8641, 282 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH 03054.

There are no other calling hours as Ed was cremated in South Carolina.   For those interested, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, but please don’t feel obligated to do so.

Thank you to all who sent expressions of sympathy  and cards.   The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary is a wonderful support network when one is most needed.

Linda A. Theroux 2012-2013 Dept. Sr. Vice President

To All,

It is with the heaviest of heart full of sorrow that I have to report the passing of our LAVFW Post #5396 President, Barbara Gonya.

Barbara suffered a massive stroke and was placed in an induced coma just over a week ago.  The family decided to have her brought out of the coma and have her pace maker removed so she could peacefully join her husband, Dick who passed just after Memorial Day  2009, however she lingered until this morning at 6:30am.

Barbara and daughter, June had endured Irene’s flood water this past August and were displaced from their home for over 2 months.  Barbara wanted us all to know when she received cards of encouragement from other NH LAVFW Posts and brought them to monthly meetings to share with us.   She was always very appreciative.

Barbara’s birthday was last Saturday, January 7th and her family celebrated her 83rd birthday in ICU.  She was an intensely dedicated and proud LAVFW member.  Until a year ago, Barbara marched is EVERY Memorial Day and July 4th parade.  She was not very happy with us last year when Commander Lloyd Chandler insisted that she ride in his Willy’s Jeep with him leading the parades.  She realized that riding was much more enjoyable and she could smile & wave to everyone along the parade routes.

Barbara’s daughter June Bard is also a member of our Post and I’m certain words of condolence would help June and her family get through the sorrowful days that are ahead.

Cards may be mailed to:  June Bard, PO Box 42, Glen, NH 03838

Respectfully submitted,

Cathy Hayes-Blake, Sr. Vice Pres.
